The San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild is a support council of The San Diego Museum of Art.  In alignment with our mission to support The Museum, membership in the Artists Guild requires maintaining concurrent membership in The San Diego Museum of Art

Purpose and Benefits

The Artists Guild strengthens the bond between the museum and the artist community of San Diego County by enhancing the museum’s awareness and appreciation of local artists. In so doing it brings original art by local artists to the attention of art patrons for display and purchase.

What we do:

  • Promotes sale of members’ work at sponsored exhibitions.

  • Offers opportunities for member demonstrations in museum educational programs.
  • Provides social opportunities connected to exhibitions within the museum.
  • Contributes funds to museum activities and art purchases.
  • Establishes an unequaled affiliation between local fine artists and San Diego's premier arts showplace.


Artist membership

Any artist who is a member of The San Diego Museum of Art may apply and once accepted may participate fully in all Guild activities. Artist members may enter in Artist Guild exhibitions, receive discounts on Guild sponsored events, and are eligible to serve on the Board of the Guild. 

$50 / year, plus one-time non-refundable application fee: $15

$25 if one joins after January 1st, membership is valid until June 30. 

To become an Artist Member, you will create a profile including your artists statement and bio.  You will upload 5 images of your recent art for jurying. You will need to list Title, medium and size of each piece. Please name your jpg files with your last name and the title of the work (e.g., Smith-California-Cliffs). Jurying is done on the first Tuesday of every month.  See Criteria for Artist Membership below. To begin your application, select Artist Application below, and click Next. After paying your non-refundable application fee and filling out your profile, please email your 5 images to: membership@sdmaag.org. Please note that your application should be completed by Sunday morning before the first Tuesday of the month (jury date).


Associate Membership

Associate membership applicants include but are not limited to foundations, museums, art collectors, dealers and educators whose primary occupation is within the field of the arts and others who wish to contribute financially to the Artists Guild.

$35 / year

$17.50 if one joins after January 1st, membership is valid until June 30. 


Student Membership

Student membership is open to all currently enrolled full-time students with a membership in The San Diego Museum of Art.

$25 / year

$12.50 if one joins after January 1st, membership is valid until June 30. 

Only Artist Members may be Board Directors, vote on Guild Business, enter Artists Guild member exhibits. Student Members will be eligible to apply to exhibit in special shows as determined by the Artists Guild Board.

All members may attend monthly board meetings, serve on a committee, plan activities and contribute suggestions to guide the Guild's future.
